Do you know, I've never noticed a plaque. I must have a look.
From the research I've done, though, the post office was built in 1890. I found a photo of it circa 1920. Unfortunately, it's not public domain, but it can be viewed here: http://www.picturevictoria.vic.gov.au/site/murrindindi/yea/10469.html
That's interesting that is was built in 1890. So many brick post offices that look rather like this (without the impressive double doors) were from the 1920s.
When you said that I thought I'd better check my facts again. Phew, I was right. It was indeed built in 1890.
Yea is classed as a historic town, settling in 1837. If you're interested, here's a link to a PDF copy of the Yea Heritage Walk brochure: http://bit.ly/7v5jJJ

ReplyDeleteThanks for your info on the Jewel spider!!
How cute is this! Jim will love it. Matching doors and nice trim.
ReplyDeleteNow, does it have a plaque that indicates when it was erected? It puts me in mind of railway siding buidlings, for some reason.
Good post.

It have been very faithfully maintained over the years. Just missing that white fence, which is a good thing!
