Echidnas are solitary creatures with a large home range (up to 100 hectares).
We haven’t seen this one for quite some time. He’s grown a lot since he was a little bundle of spines suckling his mum: Australia Day Special: Echidna Suckling Her Puggle

I think Echidnas are adorable. There is apparently one living around our bush block but I haven't seen it yet. The neighbour says it is there.
ReplyDeleteYour critters are definitely interesting!
ReplyDeleteThey are very interesting creatures. Do you think it'll have some Puggles? I like its little face!
ReplyDeleteThanks Joan Elizabeth, Cherri and James. We love these quirky little fellows. He has made a mess of the lawn but I am happy as the ant populations is seriously diminished. Cherri they only have young ever 3 to 5 years and this little fellow is about 3. They don't fully mature till about 5. We had an older one spend several days under the in-window air con back on March as I think she/he was unwell. Am keeping a close eye on the compost heaps as that was where the mother kept the puggle last time.
ReplyDeleteAnother great photo Alan. Beaut to see how much this fellow has grown. You're both so lucky to have them close to home :D)
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan. He seems to "come home" a couple of times a year. Spends time resting under the in-window air con, digs up ants across the lawns then goes on his way. This all takes a couple of days generally so we get to see quite a bit of our Echidna.
