Young Echidna

We had a visitor this week. Alan was watering the plants and didn't realise this young echidna was there. He didn't seem fazed by it and soon dried out.

  1. Hi Vicki, your little Easter Echidna is a charmer all right. Those cute little eyes look full of cheek. Interesting to read the facts about Echidnas... I didn't realise they lived for that long.
Cheers now and enjoy your lovely visitor :D)

    1. Thanks for the visit, Susan. It's a good thing they do live that long, because they don't reach sexual maturity until 7-8 years. They also don't reproduce every year.

  2. I would love to have a visitor like that. I am told they are out at our block but I never see them.

    1. They have a large territory, so if you're around long enough, you will probably get your wish.

We're particularly fortunate, as the mum echidna returns to our compost heap to rear her puggle, which then becomes home base for them.
