Falls Creek Reservoir, Tallarook State Forest VIC

In the 1890s, two weirs were constructed on Falls Creek, high above the Trawool Valley, to supply water to Seymour. The wall of the top storage (known as Falls Creek Reservoir) is built of locally quarried granite, which blends in particularly well with its surroundings. Granite was quarried in the Falls Creek valley in the 1890s and of interest are the large granite blocks that may be seen amongst the trees and ferns.

  1. A perfectly tranquil spot.
Love those reflections in the water.
Granite country is always so interesting with its outcrops. A lot of history surrounding the reservoir.
Judging by the size of the surrounding leaves... that's a pretty big spider's home!

    1. It was sooooo tranquil. We had it completely to ourselves. I didn't want to leave.

  2. Absolutely beautiful! You two must have had quite the adventure finding such a peaceful treasure. Did you get to see who lived inside that web???

    1. Adventure is right. We had a map, but we did have to backtrack at one stage. Good thing we didn't meet another vehicle on the narrow roads.

Alas, we didn't get to see the spider. Would've loved that. :)

  3. Is that a funnel web spider web? I've read that they vary in toxicity from location to location. That around Sydney they're deadly, while elsewhere the venom is not remarkable.

  4. It could very well be home to a funnel web spider, James. You are right about the toxicity of the Sydney ones:

    1. Thanks, Brenda. It's one of our favourite spots to escape to. Just perfect for unwinding.
