Moth

In Australia, there are over 10,000 named species of moths (compared with only about 416 species of butterflies), so I'm not even going to attempt to identify this one. I'm sure it's common, though.

The Welcome Swallow and the Sprinkler

A lone Welcome Swallow keeps a roof sprinkler company. (In case you’re wondering, the roof sprinklers are there to wet/cool the house down in a bushfire. We hope.)

Willie Wagtail Attacking a Raven

Willie Wagtails really are fearless little warriors, taking on birds much larger than themselves. I’ve even seen them having a go at birds of prey – sometimes to their detriment.

Grasshoppers

Alas I’m no entomologist and as yet haven’t been able to identify either of these grasshoppers. Can anyone help?

Willie Wagtail Nest with Eggs

The Willie Wagtails have produced a second set of eggs, but this time I managed to snap a photo before they hatched.

AND JUST TO REMIND YOU HOW SMALL THE NEST IS:

Camel Train (Yea VIC)

Now, this is something you don’t see every day! Unfortunately (very), I was away from home and missed out on seeing this in person.

P.S. These photos were taken on the road just outside our place.

Raindrop-decorated Christmas Tree

Our Christmas tree has grown too tall (approx 5m) for us to decorate, but nature lent a hand and adorned it for us, temporary as it was.

EDIT: I've just realised that with the reduced image size, the raindrops aren't visible. Please click on the photo to view the full effect.

Stormy Evening Sky (Yea VIC)

I love the colours of this shot. I took it last night when the sun was low in the sky and a storm was approaching.

P.S. This is the view from our back door.

Huntsman Spider with Eggs

One from the archives. It was taken with my old pocket Ricoh, so the image quality isn’t fantastic, but it’s still one of my favourites.

Mud Wasp Hard at Work

This a tiny wasp – the second photo provides a good indication of scale.

Angus Heifer

This one’s dedicated to Holly, a deep thinker who is concerned about what will happen to the cows if there’s a fire. Holly is only three years old (almost).
